Travelogue

  • I finally found a peaceful Shanghai apartment to live in for a long time

For this one week project residency in Shanghai, I deliberately avoided traditional hotels with limited space and chose the Shanghai Suisse Place Apartment Hotel on Pudong South Road. After staying for 5 days, it was discovered that the room facilities here were completely tailored for long-term stays, without fancy and ineffective configurations. Each one accurately met the basic needs of daily living, and there was no sense of alienation from staying in a hotel until the end. Instead, it was like having your own small apartment in Shanghai.
I chose a 42 square meter one bedroom apartment, and the first impression when I opened the door was that it was transparent and bright. The newly renovated room in 2024 has no hint of outdated or stuffy atmosphere, and the warm toned light wood furniture makes the space particularly spacious. The 28 inch suitcase is spread out in the foyer, completely unobstructed by the daily movement. The most surprising thing is the open full function kitchen, which has an embedded induction cooker, a large capacity dishwasher, a full set of non stick cooking utensils and tableware. Even dish washing cotton and seasoning cans are prepared in advance. You don't need to go to the supermarket to purchase vegetables. You can cook a bowl of hot Noodles in soup for yourself on the way down from work and completely say goodbye to the greasy feeling of taking out food in the hotel.
The balance between work and sleep is particularly thoughtful, with a 1.2-meter-wide solid wood workbench reserved by the window. The network port, multi specification fast charging socket, and backlit eye protection desk lamp are all equipped, and the ergonomic office chair provides stable support for the waist and back, without the usual soreness and bloating feeling of sitting in hotels for long periods of time. The bedroom area and work area have been separated by soft partitions, so even if I stay up late and work overtime with my computer on, the light will not affect the sleeping area. The 1.8-meter mattress is moderately soft and hard, and the double-layer soundproof windows completely isolate the sporadic traffic noise on Pudong South Road. Even during the morning rush hour, after closing the windows, the room is so quiet that white noise can be heard. As someone who is particularly sensitive to sound, I have slept for 5 consecutive days until I naturally woke up.
The details of the bathroom completely touch the pain points of the bathroom, with a thorough dry wet separation design. After taking a shower, the dry area countertop will not be splashed with water stains at all. The built-in large capacity storage cabinet can hold my full set of skincare products and change clothes, without stacking things on the countertop in a messy way. The intelligent constant temperature showerhead heats up immediately when it comes to water, and the water pressure is stable and just right. After a day of running on site, I was exhausted. Taking a 20 minute hot shower, all the tension could be dissipated along the water flow.
Of course, as a city apartment hotel, it does not have the infinity pool and luxurious public area of internet famous hotels. Some low area rooms have windows outside the surrounding residential buildings. But compared to hotels that pile up ineffective check-in facilities, every configuration here is designed to provide a comfortable stay. After staying for 5 days, even someone like me who stays on site and chooses accommodation all year round can't find any flaws. Next time I come to Shanghai for a long-term stay, I will definitely choose this place as my first choice.Show more

  • I have a temporary nest in the city

I plan to stay in Shanghai for a few days to visit exhibitions, but I didn't choose a traditional hotel with limited space. I booked Shanghai Suisse Place Apartment Hotel. It's only a 3-minute walk from Linyi Xincun Station on Metro Line 6. From a distance, you can see the warm yellow exterior of the apartment building. When you push open the door with your suitcase, you understand why many people who come to Shanghai for long-term residence consider it a temporary home.
The check-in experience was relaxed and smooth, with no overly enthusiastic formalities at the front desk. During the gap of checking information, they proactively recommended a south facing apartment to me, saying that it had good lighting and could avoid sporadic traffic on the roadside. They handed me a nearby lifestyle guide, clearly indicating the fresh food supermarket within a 5-minute walk, the local grocery store that had been open for over a decade, and the convenience store that was still open late at night. As soon as I opened the door, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the 40 plus square meter space was completely designed for a small home. The newly renovated space, which was completed in 2024, had no stuffiness at all. The open plan small kitchen was equipped with a complete set of kitchenware, including pots, pans, and dishwashers, so there was no need to order takeout repeatedly.
The most reassuring thing is the attention to detail in daily life. The 1.8-meter bed in the bedroom is just right in terms of softness and hardness. After a day of running around exhibitions, I was exhausted and lay down for less than ten minutes, and most of it dissipated. The double-layer soundproof window completely isolates the sound of traffic outside. As someone who is sensitive to sound, I slept through several nights until dawn. The bathroom has undergone a thorough separation of dry and wet areas, with a thermostatic showerhead that instantly releases hot water. After strolling around, one is covered in dust and wind, and taking a hot shower makes one feel relaxed. The most considerate thing is the free home cleaning twice a week, so you don't have to clean up the garbage by yourself, and you won't be in a mess even after staying for a long time.
The convenience of life in the surrounding area is directly maximized: a 3-minute walk to the subway station, transfer from Line 6 to Line 2, and travel to Lujiazui, Nanjing West Road, and the Bund within a 20 minute drive, without wasting time on commuting. The corner downstairs is the vegetable market, where you can buy vegetables with dew in the morning and cook a bowl of noodles in the small kitchen, which is much more comfortable than eating takeout every meal. The 24-hour gym equipment that comes with the apartment is well maintained, and after a day of browsing and running for half an hour, most of the fatigue in the body can be relieved.
Of course, there is also a small regret: as an apartment style hotel, Shanghai Suisse Place Apartment Hotel does not have the luxurious lobby of traditional hotels, and some low area rooms near the road occasionally hear the sound of distant traffic. But these minor shortcomings cannot completely overshadow its solidity - it is not the kind of transitional foothold that is only suitable for staying for one or two nights, but a small nest that can allow you to settle down safely in Shanghai for a few days, fully delivering the fireworks and comfort of a long-term stay to the guests.
Before leaving, I packed my bags and looked at the mug I had used myself in the small kitchen, which made me feel a bit reluctant. Next time I plan to stay in Shanghai for a long time, I will definitely book back here as soon as possible.Show more
